Happy Monday!

Happy Monday lovelies!!!!

Are you off today for the holiday? MrV has to work (boo!) but is getting holiday pay (yay!).

I wanted to just update you on what is going on here.

~ I am now 6.5 months pregnant with baby boy #2 and getting so so excited! He is kicking like crazy and I am just getting bigger and bigger. Its starting to get uncomfortable and I am not quite sure how I will manage another 3 months. AsherTate is super healthy and I just feel so so blessed. We still have a lot to get for him but we are good with clothes. Luckily we saved a lot from SethJason. We are hoping for a VBAC at a beautiful birth center here and I am just trying to prepare myself the best I can.

~ MrV is working and keeps working his way up in the company. I am so so proud of him! We have some transition we are figuring out with his job so prayers would be appreciated on that. He is playing football on the weekends with a group of guys he works with and he is just loving it. I am so glad he has a little outlet to just be a man.

~ SethJason is now a year and half!!! He recently had a very traumatic haircutting experience ... even though it was his 2nd haircut. I am teaching him signs since he still isn't talking much. He will say
"mom" and "dada" but everything else is jibber jabber. He can sign: more, eat, and all done. I need to start teaching him some more because he is doing so well with it. And gets way less frustrated with me while trying to communicate. SethJason climbs on everything and loves to throw his little football (just like daddy). He is now sleeping through the night, completely weaned, and even sleeps in his crib!!!! This just happened about 3 months ago. hehe. Its wonderful to have a few months off before we start this process over with AsherTate. Everything is a phone to him and he loves to talk.... unless someone is actually on the phone and then he doesn't talk at all. hehe.

~ Our family is starting to pray about where we want to live forever. We miss our families in California sooo much and we are really just trying to figure out what will be best for us. MrV is looking into transfers for later this year and where would be best. Please be praying for us as we listen to The Lord and really decide where we want to plant roots. We have lived in 4 different states in the last 3.5 years and we really want to settle.

~ We found a church here that we are really enjoying too! Its a bigger church but everyone is so so friendly. SethJason even has a little class that he does too and he really LOVES it! He plays with all the little kids and is learning about sharing, songs, and The Lord.

We are really being reminded of just the love of God and that HE directs our steps.

Selfie Sunday.

We had such a great day at church today learning about how powerful our words are. {convicted me on my negativity lately and how I speak to my family}

Baby V, Mr. V, and I dressed in our Sunday's best.
I decided we just had to take pictures (which is an often occurrence).

Selfies with my son.

It was so cute because he noticed himself in the camera.

And a family picture.

I am sooo loving all the Fall colors! That red tree is my favorite!

Happy Sunday and blessings to a new week!!!

2nd thanksgiving married

I hope all you had a wonderfully beautiful thanksgiving!

The husband and I had a great time with fantastic food!!!
I had sweet potato casserole for the first time and Martin tried pecan pie for the first time!
The only bad thing with not cooking for own dinner is no left overs! Hehe.

We did not partake in black Friday but we did end up going to Wal-Mart and getting Christmas stuff and decorated our tree.(:
The theater was offering matinee prices all day so we saw Red Dawn after eating a DELICIOUS meal at Logans (two steak dinners with two sides each and dessert for $20).

After that we got all bundled to go see this part of town that is all lit up with Christmas lights. We were even going to take Sophia.... but when we got there it was going to cost $5 each. No thanks. Lol.

Today it has been really cold so we have just been snuggling all day. (:

Hope your weekend is going wonderful! (: did you do black friday? What was the best part of your thanksgiving dinner?

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Happy thanksgiving lovelies!!!

What are your plans for the day?

Martin and I are hanging around the house and then going to a friend's house for dinner. I am excited for it but actually a little sad that I won't be cooking.
So I made a big breakfast instead! (: I even made heart shaped cinnamon rolls (Martin ate three of them... after eating a huge plate of hashbrowns, eggs with sausage, bacon, and cheese, and biscuits)!
Now its time for some football as Sophia naps.

Happy Turkey day from my little family to yours!

{Psalm 136:1} Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Conflict Resolution

Well my computer is still at the doctor (boo) so here i am blogging from the smart cellular. Hehe.

This weekend husby and i went on some fun dates! We went to the local high school football game on Friday. We went to lunch at a nice little restaurant, saw Taken 2, and went to a new church/worship service on Saturday. On Sunday we went to our church and then lunch at one of our favorite places.
It was a really great weekend.

But it had the potential to be a not so great weekend. On Friday night after the game my prince and i got into (dun dun dun) an argument.

I know what you are thinking, "but Monica, you are married which means you never fight. You are a Christian wife and have a Christian husband, what is happening?
i thought your marriage was perfect because of all the stuff you post on twitter and instagram (Mrs_v820).
I am baffled! How could you have argued?"

Ok, hopefully you don't think like that... But i would be lying if i said that I didn't kinda think that way when i was single.

I want to be real on my blog. I don't want to paint this picture of the perfect marriage that is unattainable.
My husband and i are two months into our second year of marriage and we are still learning! We get into arguments. We disagree sometimes. Occasionally we hurt the other persons feelings. We forgive. We apologize. We forgive. We apologize. We forgive again.

So.... conflict can come from anywhere. Insecurity. Past hurts (caused by the person or other people). Misunderstanding.  Not communicating at all. Frustrations. Fear. Confusion. And the list can go on and on.
We, as individuals, need to deal with things like past hurt, fear, insecurities, learning to communicate effectively, etc. But let's pretend (well... Its not really pretending for me) that we haven't dealt with every single issue yet... And a conflict has happened.
This isn't an issue at our house but for the sake of conflict resolution we will use this small example.

Your husband left the toilet seat up!!! Oh great! Out of your anger and frustration you confront your husband who has just got home from work. Out of his defensiveness and tiredness the conflict emerges.
Here are some things i have learned..... Uh.... things i am learning about conflict resolution.

1) talk calmly. Even if the other person confronts you with loudness and harsh words. Usually if you can keep your cool the other person will calm themselves down too.
2) use your best communication skills. Let the other person know that you HEAR them.
3) do not try to "win" the argument. You guys are a TEAM! the goal is to get to an understanding ... Not to win or hurt the other person more.
4) don't play the blame game (this is YOUR fault. You always do this. I get,mad because of YOU!). this is also a game with no winners.
Use phrases like "when you do this... It makes me feel...." That way your spouse knows that its not HIM and you can effectively express how you feel without being offensive (when you leave the toilet seat up it makes me feel disrespected. When you yell and scrream at me it makes me feel attacked.
When you don't call me when you leave the store it makes me feel worried. When you don't want to hold my hand it makes me feel unloved." )
5) never bring up past things that you have already forgiven him for (this is just like last Friday when you left the seat up!)
6) let them know again that you truly hear them by talking about what has been said when you apologize and agree to work on what caused the conflict. (ok sweetheart i never want you to feel disrespected. So will try my best to remember to put the toilet seat down and i am very sorry.)
7) in a conflict it is good for both of you to apologize and forgive and agree to change. (i am sorry too. I don't ever want you to feel attacked so i will work on how i approach you)
8) it is never to late to humble yourself and apologize. Even if you feel the conflict has been resolved still apologize!,still forgive. It helps your marriage so so much.

Also remember that you married an imperfect person and you as well are imperfect. Jesus is the only perfect one. When we remind ourselves that our spouse is not perfect we can start to forgive more frequently... Because we also need that constant forgiveness.

Like i have always said make sure you are responding in love and not reacting in anger.

Husby and i are still learning. Still growing. Still experiencing and making mistakes. But we do it together.

{Ephesians 4:26 NKJV}
“Be angry, and do not sin” : do not let the sun go down on your wrath,

Resolving conflict and love. - Monica

Changing thoughts

Good morning!!!

thanks for all the ideas of my baby leap list!!!
I am excited to talk to my husband about it more and let you all know my list. (: (:

yesterday was a hard day because Sophia got very very sick. I had to take our poor little puppy into the vet because she was throwing up all morning.
since then she has been sleeping and not really eating or drinking.
the vet did tell us that the shot would make her very very tired. I am hoping that is all it is.
so today is just snuggle day.

I also had my little babysitting job yesterday. it is spirit week at her school and today is superhero day.
we....... well I made her costume.
she is Wonder Woman. (: (:

I found this super cute picture of my husband, sister in law, and brother in law showing off their cool new kicks. He he.

anything you have learned so far this week?

today I feel like I am learning to not give my thoughts over to the enemy.
I have noticed that I can be very anxious ... if I am not aware of my thoughts.
sometimes I can make up whole stories or scenarios in my head and then react on those feelings.
I know that is something I need to pray in to give completely to the Lord.

"Satan wants a foothold so he can get a stronghold. small place that turns into something huge." - this was on Beth Moore's twitter this morning.

I cannot allow the enemy to have a foothold or a stronghold on my thoughts.

Lord, renew my mind. Wash me clean. I know these negative thoughts are not from you and i declare that they will leave now!  I will not be anxious about my future or my marriage because my hope is in you. I trust you with all that i am and i believe in Your promises for my life.
Continue to grow our marriage and conform it to Your will. Be at our center and saturate us with your love. Speak too my and my husbands heart and show us our callings. We will yield to You. We give you praise and honor forever.
In Jesus name. Amen.

if you feel any area in your life that the enemy might have a foothold on, please pray. talk to God and give it back to him. let me know how I can be praying for all of you.

have a happy happy happy Wednesday!

Happy fall ya'll

Well it is cold here in Alabama!!!

I feel like it just happened overnight too!
I am wearing sweaters inside and scarfs outside!
I even made a cup of decaf coffee just because I was cold!! Heehe.

So what is the weather like where you are?

Also Martin is still sick so if you could all pray for him I would appreciate it!

Snuggle up and happy Monday!

Sick :(

Husby has been sick all Week.... So that is where i have been. Taking care of him and getting him plenty of soup. Also we found a store that sells Kombucha so he is so excited! He LOVES Kombucha and swears its helps him when he doesn't feel good.

My computer is currently getting better too. Lol. It was broken so my love took it to some computer doctor last week. Things are a lot slower in the south so it could take a few weeks to get it back.

I hope you all are having a beautiful weekend and i pray God encounters you in new ways! (:

Things I have learned from being a wife

I have been a wife for almost a year and a stay-at-home-wife for about 4 months now.

Here are some things I have learned along the way -

* Floors (especially bathroom floors) can NEVER EVER get completely clean. Once you think you have wiped and swept and mopped everything up... you will see a hair. Then you will go to clean that hair and you find some dirt. When you wipe up the dirt you noticed little fuzzies from the washcloth.

* Hot water is not the best way to clean up cheese from the sink -- it will melt and make it harder for you.

* Grab the milk from the WAY back at the store... the date will be further out. Because if it is just the two of you... you will probably not drink a gallon of milk before it expires.

* Unless you do portion control while cooking dinner every single night, you will have to throw away leftovers too (just threw away an entire container of chicken alfredo =[  )

* Heating up oil in a pan is like an art form. If it gets to hot it will not only pop and burn you ( I have a lovely little scar from making hamburgers two weeks ago) but it will cook the outside crispy-burn and not cook the inside (like my very sad donuts this morning).

* Sometimes a husband just needs an encouraging word to make his day better..... or a back rub. Either one.

* Paper towels and dish-washing gloves can be life savers.

*  Pack lunches and set up coffee the night before, you will be happy in the morning that you did. If you still want to get up early with him then you have time to make breakfast (or at least see him off to work with a cup of coffee).

* Men like to relax and unwind in different ways. Although really loud video games might make you feel anxious and annoyed... that is how he likes relax -- its best to let him have his time.

* DATE NIGHTS ARE IMPORTANT Even if you always have dinner at home together and watch shows together at night -- take some time that is an actual date. If you don't have a lot of money then rent a red box (or two!) and have a night in. Take a walk. A picnic at the park.
It is so so important to take time out and invest in the marriage. Don't talk about bills or chores and just enjoy one another.

* Forgive. We are not perfect people (and we did not marry perfect people) and we can say or do things that hurt the other person. So remember to forgive and ask for forgiveness. Talk things out and communicate. Respond in love instead of react in anger.
Remind yourself of  the vows you spoke on your wedding day and keep them in your heart.

* Never stop praying for your spouse. I started praying for my "future husband" at a young age and was confident that God knew who he was and that my prayers were heard. I have to continue to pray for my husband and to be on his side at all times.

- . - . -
I have learned so much from being a wife and I keep learning too! This has been such a wonderful journey and I can't believe that we have already been united for almost a year!

Father of Lights

Martin and I had such a wonderful weekend together.

We watched shows, ate delicious food, and watched our California church from our Alabama living room (Soo thankful for live streaming).

Last night our church did a premiere of the Darren Wilson documentary 'Father of Lights'. Darren Wilson is the producer of Wanderlust Productions. He is an amazing and extremely talented man of God. He has also made the film 'Finger of God' documenting God's miraculous power all across the world and the 'sequel' 'Furious Love' about the extreme love of God. This third film 'Father of Lights' is all about Father God and how he is the light in dark places.

It was so incredibly impacting! The movie is not set to release until October 2012 but we got blessed to watch it before. Our church is playing it live for 2 more days on ibethel.tv so if you want to.. check it out.

We are called to be light in dark places. We, as Christians, need to show the love of the Father to all people that we come into contact with. We need to have a life-changing encounter with Father God.

Father, I pray for everyone reading this right now. I pray for a true encounter with their heavenly Father. I pray that you would touch any past hurt from their earthly father that would distort their vision of You, God. Lord, touch any area where the church has told them that you are angry or scary or just want to smite them. God, you are so good and love Your children. You adore each and every one of them and You just want to love on them. Lord, I pray that they can accept that free love that you want to shower upon them. God, I just pray for fresh encounters of the Father's love. I pray that every person will discover a deep passion inside of them to be a light. Lord, we are the light. Help us to see opportunities to be that light.
In Jesus Name, Amen

50 Shades & Magic Mike

I recently came across a link on my Facebook to a blog talking about the book 50 Shades of Grey  and the movie 'Magic Mike'.
If you do not know what they are -  'Magic Mike' is a new movie in theaters about male strippers and 50 Shades of Grey is the first installment of a trilogy of erotic novels.

It seems that so many women are talking about how "good" these are. I have no desire to watch or read them.

If you have not yet read the blog (50 Shades of Magic Mike by MelissaJenna) please do so.
She writes it so raw and so real.. and SOO truthful.

I think that it is so important, as Christian woman, to be a standard and to not go along with what everyone else is doing and what is popular. We need to guard our eyes since they are the window to the soul.

I always tell my husband that people know I am married not by the ring on my finger but by the way I am. I made it a priority in my marriage to continue purity. To stay pure to my husband and to my Lord. And that is including the things that I watch or put into my mind.
I am a Christian wife and I want others to see that about me when they first come into contact with me. Not to build up myself but to give glory and honor to the Lord.

I am completely 100% faithful to my husband with every single part of me. I cherish my relationship with my husband and God. I believe that it is worth fighting for.

What do you guys think?

Lord, I pray for every person reading this blog right now. I pray that you would speak to their hearts and comfort them. I pray protection over all the husbands and wives (and future husbands and wives). Jesus, give them a fresh touch and help them to guard their hearts.
I declare a new standard of purity in the lives of Your people. Father, give us clean hands and pure hearts. Not because we are better but because we are Yours. Lord I pray for a "honeymoon" feeling for everyone reading this prayer right now. That they would fall even deeper in love with their spouse and most importantly with their first love - You.  I honor You today God and I thank you for marriages. For that beautiful union. In Jesus Name. - Amen

July fourth

Well Martin and I really had a great Alabama fourth of July!!!

We went to our friend's house, BBQ'd, and lit off tons of fireworks. I mostly stuck with the sparklers but it was still fun!
I have never done that since its illegal in California It was really fun!!! (: (:
I tried to put a video up.. but it wouldn't let me. I will try again later. (:

We stormed earlier in the day and my husband was NOT happy. He was SOOO looking forward to the fireworks .. so when it started to clear up I thought he was going to jump up and down!
We had to wait until it got dark to light them all off and he was soo impatient! We ate and then watched an episode of Parenthood and an episode of Swamp people until it was dark enough.

Our friends have two young children so Martin and I had a great time playing with them. They did so good with the fireworks too. The little boy even held a sparkler!!! (:

Now Martin is off for the rest of the weekend and I am so excited to hang out with him!

Leaving on a jet plane & a graduating niece.

Happy Friday lovelies!!!

My beautiful niece is graduating high school in one week and my sister blessed me and bought my plane ticket. I will be flying to California on Sunday morning. I still cannot believe she is that old!
Awh... when she was little.

I am only 8 years older then my niece so we grew up in a very different relationship then the normal aunt-niece relationship. Its kind of like I have two sisters - my sister and my niece. hehe. We were really close growing up and she was my maid of honor at my wedding (my sister was my matron of honor -- I had two of honors).
I am extremely proud of her and so excited for this next season in her life! She is a beautiful young woman who will do amazing things! (:
 __ . __ . __ . __

I am actually sad to leave Martin for 8 days. We are still newlyweds and this will be the farthest that I have been away from him. I have been a housewife since we have been in Alabama and I am just hoping my house doesn't fall apart while I am gone. Hehe.

I have never traveled this far alone before so I am a little bit nervous too... but I really am excited to see my family! My brothers' birthday is June 4th, so I am hoping I can see them too! (:

Happy weekend! (:

finding the faith to keep walking

This weekend we had some friends come and visit. We were so busy last week trying to get the house all ready for our guests!

It was so refreshing having our friends here. My friend is from California and was my roommate when Martin and I first met. She married an amazing man of God and has been a wife for 5 months.
We talked and talked about how married life is and of our hearts for the Lord. It was so wonderful.

When they left Sunday morning, Martin told me that he was sad.

It was the first time we TRULY felt homesick. Our friends reminded us of California. Of our church. Of our family and other friends.
Some doubt started to set in.

Why are we in Alabama? Did we really move here so that Martin could work so hard, all day in the sun? Why did we leave our church to come here and not even find a church? What is it for us here in Alabama?

When I started to think of alternatives we could have moved to, the doubt became larger.

Why didn't we stay in California? We could have moved to Southern California and be working in a church. We could have stayed closer to family. Why are we here? What does God have for us in ALABAMA?

My focus was completely on all the questioning.

After some text talk with my wise mother-in-law, an encouraging facebook e-mail from a friend, and some beautiful time with the Lord I found the answer -- I don't know.

I have no true idea why God opened the doors for us to move to Alabama, but He did. He opened so many doors for us to move here smoothly. It is completely evident that the Lord's hand was in this move. I just have to trust Him.

My husband and I are learning to trust the Lord in a new way before. We are being stretched further then we have ever been stretched in our lives. We are gaining more understanding of one another as well as Our God.

Yesterday in my quiet time I was reminded of the story of Jesus walking on water.

Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them saying, "Be of good cheer! It is I, do not be afraid."
And Peter answered Him saying, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water."
So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
But when he saw that the wind of boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me!"
And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
- Matthew 14:25-33 (NKJV)

The first thing that I really noticed about this story was that both times the disciples were frightened, Jesus responded IMMEDIATELY! Once fear was present Jesus comforted them with either His voice ("Be of good cheer! It is I, do not be afraid) or with His touch (Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him). I love that Jesus will always come to us immediately.

Our pastor would often point out that the moment Peter started to sink was when he started looking at the storm around him.  His focus changed from the Lord's face to the scariness that surrounded him.
We have to put our focus on God and trust that He will guide us. Not looking behind us to see what was left (a nearly sinking boat), not looking around us (the big scary storm),  not looking below us (hello!? Water that is not normally walked upon!). Our lives need to be one unbroken gaze fixed upon the beauty of His face (Vicky Beeching - Captivated).

I noticed that Peter did not ask "why".
"Hey, uh, Jesus WHY don't you just calm the storm and hop in this boat and we can get back to it."
"Jesus, WHY am I walking on water, whats the point?"
"Wait a moment. WHY I am not sinking right now?"
"WHY am I the only one doing this? WHY aren't the others trying?"
I guess we really shouldn't always ask why and just follow Him

The other thing that I noticed is that Jesus said to Peter that He had little faith and asked why he doubted. Uh! Conviction right there.
Peter. Okay... Peter actually got OUT of the boat. He tried. He had enough faith to step out and start walking toward Jesus. The other disciples just stayed in the boat. But Jesus said Peter had little faith. It took some faith to step out but we need to keep growing in faith so we can walk alongside the Lord.

The last thing that I noticed in this scripture was that once they got back to the boat, the storm ceased. It stopped.
Jesus had the ability to stop the storm but instead He decided to stretch the faith of His disciples.

________________________________________________________________________________

Now, I still do not know why God opened the doors to Alabama. I am not sure how long we will be here. I know that I miss my family and friends a lot. I get home sick from time to time and it saddens me to be missing out on family events (like my beautiful niece graduating high school).
But I have to yield to the Lord. I need to keep my eyes on Him, put my life in His hands, grow in my faith, and trust him completely.

Super Wife to the Rescue!

Saturday, after Martin worked all day, we had our friends and their kids over for dinner. After pizza and homemade no bake cheesecake we walked the Pier for a few hours. It was so much fun.

Sunday consisted of way to many errands in the morning (including... dun dun dun... laundry!) and lounging around for the remainder of the day.

You can pretty much imagine what my Monday was like - cleaning the entire house! So I woke up at 6am watched a few shows, ate breakfast, did pilates on Netflix, showered and started cleaning away.

Okay, I am not a clean freak AT ALL but I do like a clean-ER house. I can't feel truly relaxed watching a movie when I know I have a sink full of dishes from dinner.
This drives my husband insane! He likes to eat dinner, watch a movie, and clean the kitchen later..or tomorrow. I like to eat dinner, clean the entire kitchen, and then relax. Many times in our apartment in California, Martin would start a movie during dinner and I would get up in the middle of the movie (after I was done eating) and would start to clean the kitchen. Now, I KNEW I was being rude but I just could not enjoy the movie with my dirty dishes on the table and the leftovers not put away.
Marriage is a compromise. So.. I am trying.

I successfully went to sleep with TWO sinks full of dishes and all of our laundry unfolded (eh.. not happy we did that, but we were soo ready to just relax. We said we would "fold it later" but it never happened).

Here is what some of my house looked like before (I cleaned both of the bedrooms too.. but didn't take pictures):

And this is what the rooms looked like after Super Wife (who has a messy top knot, hello kitty slippers, polka dot apron, and pink & zebra gloves) got to them:

Then I folded all of our laundry while watching Giuliana & Bill on Netflix.

I made my husband's lunch (with an encouraging note) and set the coffee for the morning right after I paid our credit card and changed all of our insurance from California to Alabama.

Yup, I really feel like a Super Wife! Not all days are like this... and I know I will have a lazy day again but today it felt good. (:

Sending you lots of motivation and love. - Monica

day six Oklahoma to Tennessee

We just arrived in our hotel in Memphis.

I was sad to leave my family in Oklahoma but I had so much fun with them & I can't wait to visit again! (:

I am so excited to be here in bed! We had missed our exit and ended up somewhere that I didn't want to be. Our hotel is right at the famous Graceland (Elvis Presely's home) which I would love to visit! But it is pretty pricy.

But our hotel is all Elvis Presley! He he. We only have about four and a half more hours until our new home.

We saw the funniest car while driving, the "water" at lunch looked dirty, and of course Martin can't be serious when we take photos. Lol. Needless to say... we have been laughing and smiling majority of today.

Lord, thank you again for protecting my husband and I. I praise You for the wonderful time in Oklahoma with my loved ones. Continue to bless them. I pray peace over my husband and myself as we sleep our last night in a hotel and prepare the way for tomorrow. In Jesus Name- Amen.

The King has left the building and love. - Monica
